Nursery retailer/wholesaler

A nursery retailer/wholesaler license is required for businesses that:

  • Sell or hold live plants or turf for planting, breeding, or decoration.
  • Perform landscaping and lawn maintenance which provides planting or installing new plants or turf.

Businesses selling fruit trees and related stock must also pay an annual assessment fee. For more information, contact the Plant Services Program at 360-902-1800.

Exceptions

A nursery license isn’t required for:

    1. Persons producing only marijuana (Cannabis) and who are licensed as a marijuana producer under RCW 69.50.325.
    2. Persons selling less than $100 per year or only sell cut flowers.

Post your license

A license must be posted at each location where the licensee operates. You may not begin this business activity until you receive a Business License document listing the required license.

Fees

Choose either a wholesaler or retailer license based on what you believe will be your primary source of income, then estimate your total nursery sales for the calendar year. Determine the fee due based on your license type and your sales estimate.

Nursery retailer: $100–$2,499 gross sales $50.40 per location
Nursery retailer: $2,500–$14,999 gross sales $109.20 per location
Nursery retailer: $15,000 and over gross sales $218.40 per location
Nursery wholesaler: $100–$14,999 gross sales $109.20 per location
Nursery wholesaler: $15,000 and over gross sales $218.40 per location
