Who needs a license?

The City of Lake Stevens requires businesses located within the city limits, or who conduct business within the city limits, to be licensed with the city. Some businesses may be exempt from getting a city business license. If your business is conducted in your home, certain restrictions may apply. For more information, please contact the city directly. City approval is required for initial issuance.

Temporary and Solicitor licenses

Businesses at a temporary location such as fireworks stands/displays and solicitor/peddler licenses must be obtained directly from the City of Lake Stevens.

Under what circumstances is a business license denied?

A license may be denied to a business for any of the following reasons:

  • If the application is incomplete or if it contains any material misrepresentation.
  • If the application does not propose adequate measures for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare in terms of pedestrian and vehicular traffic control, security, avoidance of public nuisances, and avoidance of consumer fraud.
  • If the application does not meet the City’s land use code.
